Namaste and welcome to the October edition of our Conference Connection.
We'd like to start this month's edition with a warm thank you to the 2,000+ yogis who attended the recent Estes Park conference. Thank you for making it such a memorable experience.
From students, to teachers to vendors and sponsors, we've heard nothing but positive feedback and excitement for next year!
Our next conference is just around the corner at the luxurious Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in South Florida, November 14-17, 2008.
We are excited to offer classes with master teachers like Baron Baptiste, Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, and Patricia Walden.
Plus, just added, Brent Kessel will be giving our opening keynote on "The Yoga of Money: Surviving a Financial Crisis, One Breath at a Time".
Also in this month Dayna Macy, communications director of Yoga Journal, shares here experience how yoga "brings her home."
We hope to see you at another conference soon!

by Dayna Macy
I place my mat on my bedroom floor, position my block, then gingerly sit down. Virasana. It is my first yoga pose since I had surgery to relieve pain in my neck and back a few weeks earlier.
I feel strangely loose. I -- Queen of the Tight Quads --sit with ease, maybe because I haven't used my muscles in weeks.
I'm not sure how this first practice will go. I'm asking my body what she needs and she tells me Virasana, also known as Hero Pose. Maybe I need to feel a little more heroic -- I'm still so
weak and tired.
I move into Supta Virasana, or Reclining Hero Pose. My quads do not object, which in this particular pose, might just be a first. I've never liked this pose, so why my body is telling me to
do it is a mystery. But ask your body a question and you get what you get. So down I go. Yoga, after all these years, still surprises me.
It occurs to me that I've had a long relationship with my practice -- nearly fifteen years. Like any long-term relationship, we've had our ups and downs. Sometimes I've practiced intensely,
other times lethargically. Sometimes I've felt passionate, other times bored. One year I rebelled (against what I'm still not sure) and let my practice slip to once every few weeks.
But always, we've remained connected. Once your practice takes root and makes a home inside you, it stays alive, bearing fruit when you least expect it.
Lying in Supta Virasana, my tired body feels deeply fed, like parched earth after a long rain. I lie on the mat, grateful that once again, I've come home.

Florida Conference.

information about his classes.
When Brent Kessel, yogi and top financial planner, is not busy talking people off the ledge of emotional reactivity due to the current economic crisis, he is busy playing Uno and Legos with
his 2 young sons, coordinating family camping and ski trips with his wife, taking his boat out for a waterskiing trip, digging up his South African roots by playing hand-drums, rooting for
UCLA's basketball team, dancing to hip-hop, hiking and running in the mountains near his home, raising money for Type-1 diabetes research (to help his older son who has the disease),
eating ice cream with vigor, looking within during silent Zen and Tibetan meditation retreats and enjoying his daily yoga and silent sitting practice.
Kessel, a 20-year veteran of Ashtanga yoga, writes Yoga Journal's Om Money column, leads YJ conference workshops, authored the personal finance book "It's Not About the Money," and is
co-founder of Abacus Portfolios, a portfolio management company offering socially responsible investing while focusing on global, environmental and economic sustainability. Brent earned
his economics degree at UCLA, and has twice been named one of the top 250 financial advisors in the U.S. by Worth magazine, most recently in 2008. His book It's Not About the Money (HarperCollins 2008) was chosen by Kiplinger's as one of the top 10 business books of 2008 and is available on
amazon.com.
