Teacher Spotlight: T.K.V. Desikachar

Editor's Note: T.K.V. Desikachar and his wife, Menaka Desikachar, will be teaching at the upcoming Colorado Conference. Click here for more information.

T.K.V. Desikachar Son and student of the legendary Yoga Master T. Krishnamacharya, T.K.V. Desikachar himself is a world-renowned yoga teacher and is widely acknowledged to have brought Yoga Therapy into the mainstream.

Originally educated as an engineer, Desikachar began studying with his father and longtime teacher in the early 1960s. Traveling abroad to Europe at the invitation of J. Krishnamurti, a world spiritual leader of the time, Desikachar began a journey to bring the timeless teachings of the oriental world into the occidental paradigm of thinking.

A part of this process was setting up the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in 1976, thus founding what has become one of the most reputed Yoga Therapy centers of the world. It is the first Yoga Therapy center in the world to obtain the prestigious ISO 9000:2000 certification for quality processes.

Desikachar later founded the Krishnamacharya Healing & Yoga Foundation, which now acts as the international umbrella organization for the teaching tradition of Yogacarya Sri T. Krishnamacharya.

He has also authored numerous books, many of which have come to be regarded the essential reference material for modern-day yoga students.

Despite his many spectacular achievements, Desikachar chooses to remain shy and low profile to this very day. His presence in Estes Park is an offering to honor his numerous contributions in the field of Yoga and Yoga Therapy.
